Core CNC is geared for speed.
We were delighted recently when we received an enquiry from the Birmingham City University (BCU) Student Racing Team to machine a number of critical parts for their new 2015 single seater racing car that will be competing at Silverstone in July.
The prestigious Formula Student competition is held annually and involves over a hundred universities from all over the world. This year the Silverstone meeting includes not only sprint and endurance races, but also features a business event, plus extensive performance tests. The BCU team car, which is a Petrol Class 1 racer, is scheduled to compete in the 22-lap endurance event.
Each team, comprising entirely of students, begins with a blank sheet before they design, manufacture and build their own racing car, which has to conform to specific specification criteria. Commencing the project in September 2014, The BCU team’s target is to complete the manufacture and build by mid April 2015, leaving them two months for testing and refinements.
Much of the work is completed within the BCU Faculty of Technology, Engineering and the Environment, but quite naturally some of the more complex precision engineering has to be provided by sub-contract machining partners.
When they were looking for a specialist CNC machining company to manufacture crucial parts the BCU Student Racing Team contacted Core CNC after researching the market to find the best partner. They were impressed, not only with our quality plant list, which includes the latest Mazak CNC Milling and CNC Turning technology, but also by the excellent quality of our work, our impressive international customer list, our ISO 9001 QA accreditations … and also by our exceptional value for money and competitive pricing.
We are now combining our acclaimed engineering technology and talent to manufacture a number of critical components using lightweight, high-strength aluminium. These include Front and Rear Uprights, a Mono Shock Rocker, Rear Hub Flange and a Mono Shock Rocker Clamp.
As one of the key component providers for the team the Core CNC logo will be prominently featured on the car when it competes at Silverstone.
We wish the BCU Student Racing Team all the best when they compete against teams from around the world, including The United States and Germany.
